Your last bad hire cost you what?!
Most owners never add it up. Put in your own numbers and see the real cost: the wages, the training, the overtime, the lost work and the time spent hiring again.
Your numbers
Think of one hire that didn’t work out. Estimates are fine, and you can leave a box empty.
Your answer
Start filling in your numbers. Your total appears here as you type.
- Wages that didn’t produce work
- Training time that walked out the door
- Hiring their replacement
- Overtime and coverage
- Lost or redone work
How we calculate it
- Wages that didn’t produce work = yearly pay ÷ 52 × weeks on the job × the share of the job they didn’t do.
- Training = training hours × what an hour of your team’s time is worth.
- Hiring their replacement = hiring hours × that same hourly value, plus out-of-pocket hiring costs.
- Overtime and lost work are added as you enter them.
- We count the replacement hire once. The original hire is not counted, so the total stays conservative.

Questions
Where do the numbers come from?
From you. The calculator doesn’t use industry averages or outside statistics. The placeholder numbers in each box are only examples.
Why do you ask for my email and phone number?
So we can send you your total, a line-by-line breakdown and a free sample hiring report for your industry, and so Anthony can answer any questions. We never sell your information, and you can unsubscribe any time.
Why is the replacement hire counted but not the original one?
You’d have paid to hire someone for that seat either way. What the bad hire added is the cost of doing it again, so that’s the part we count.
